How to Play Scratchcards
Scratchcards are very easy to play and are available from National Lottery retailers. Each game works slightly differently, but here is an overview of how to play:
- Choose your Scratchcard from the available games in the store
- Read the instructions on the card to see what you need to do
- Scratch the relevant sections of the card to uncover if you are a winner
The prize structure is different for each game, but you can always check with the retailer whether you have won. If you are a winner, you will need to claim your prize. You have 180 days from the date when the game closes.
How to Find the Game Number on a Scratchcard
As some Scratchcards have similar names, it is important you know which one you are playing otherwise you might not be aware what prizes are available or when the last date to claim is.
Each National Lottery Scratchcard game has a different Game Number assigned to it. This is displayed on the back of all game cards, below the long barcode. The number displayed will follow a format similar to: '1234-0000000-000'. The first four digits (highlighted red in this example) make up the Game Number for that specific game.

Treasure Bingo National Lottery Numbers
News has come out today about a lucky Northern Irish man who has won the top prize on the £3 Treasure Bingo scratchcard.
30 year old Robert Fullerton, a paint sprayer from Castledawson, NI won the prize after purchasing 2 ‘essential’ scratchcards as part of his food shopping.
When paying for his scratchcard, he claimed a £3 win from a previous scratchcard, before deciding to buy two more of the Treasure Bingo scratchcards.
In a quote reported by midulstermail.co.uk, Robert said:

“I was out doing an essential grocery shop and had a scratchcard in my pocket with a £3 win on it. So while I was paying for the groceries, I exchanged it for another similar National Lottery Scratchcard, and bought an extra one for good measure.

“I brought the two scratchcards home and played them that night. I didn’t win anything on the first scratchcard and gave it to Susan to check, while I was scratching the second card,” he continued.
“Half-way through, it was already showing that I’d won £300,000 and I started physically shaking. I was thinking to myself, ‘that’s not right’ and had to get up and go outside for some fresh air.
“I showed the scratchcard to Susan and took a photo that I sent to my mum and sister – both of whom agreed that I wasn’t seeing things and that, as far as they could see, I’d won three hundred grand!
“After a restless night, with little or no sleep, I called The National Lottery the following morning. They asked for some details and then, I’ll never forget, the lady on the phone said… ‘Congratulations, you have won £300,000’!
“My reply was ‘you what?’ My heart felt like it was going to burst out of my chest. In fact, I still can’t believe it. It’s like a dream come true, especially in these uncertain times when we’re stuck at home and don’t really know how our jobs will be affected by this coronavirus pandemic.”
This comes after Robert and his partner Susan, were both furloughed as part of the ongoing response to COVID-19.
Regardless, he still plans on going back to work when he finally can, but plans to buy a new house, go on holiday and have a man cave with a big TV and darts board, once lockdown allows him to.
This goes to show, that even though lockdown is still present across the country, you can still buy scratchcards during lockdown!
At the time of writing, there are still three of the initial five jackpot prizes available to be won on the Treasure Bingo scratchcard game.
